Long walks in nature, sunbathing on sandy beaches, and dips in the ocean – as soon as the sun comes out, we are heading outdoors. But did you know that the summer can actually have a negative effect on your skin? Here we’re listing 4 common summer skin problems and tell you how to tackle each one.

Oily skin

The combination of increased heat and humidity during the summer months can make our sebaceous glands produce more sebum. This will lead to oily and greasy-looking skin, especially on our face where we have the most concentrated number of sebaceous glands. To prevent our skin from embracing this oily look, just follow the tips below.
How to prevent oily skin
Cleanse your face twice a day and use a light moisturiser afterwards. We recommend you try Love Nature Energising Cleanser and Optimals Hydra Radiance Day Cream.

Acne breakouts

Did you know that acne breakouts are more common during the summer? It’s all because of the rise in temperature! When it’s hot outside, your sweat mixes together with dirt and oil, leading to clogged pores and an increased number of breakouts.
How to prevent acne breakouts
Choose a cleanser formulated with the top blemish-fighting ingredient: salicylic acid. It will deeply purify the skin by removing dead skin cells and unclog pores. The antimicrobial properties also target existing blemishes and prevent future ones from forming. We recommend you try Pure Skin Deep Cleanse Face Wash and Pure Skin Oil Control Clay Mask.

Sunburn

You’ve probably heard it many times before, but it’s very important so we’ll just say it again – please apply sunscreen throughout the day! Not sure how much you should apply? For your face and neck there’s a clever technique to learn. Just use the length of your pointer and middle finger and squeeze out the right amount of sunscreen. When it comes to body, it’s recommended to use 2 milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin (think one tiny glass full and you’ll be good to go). Don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours!
How to prevent sunburn
Sunscreen with SPF below 30 is a big no-no if you want to protect your skin from sunburn, discolouration, and collagen breakdown. Also, make sure you choose a sunscreen that shields against both UVB and UVA rays to have the most comprehensive protection. We recommend you try Sun 360 Cream Sensitive SPF50+ and Sun 360 Dry Mist SPF50.
